If you need resume writing help but not sure what services are available to you, here is a list of agencies that provide both job search support and resume writing services. Depending on your circumstance there will be different resources you can access. Here is list of services for students, new immigrants, unemployed Canadians and business professionals.

For Students:

If you are a student at university, the best person to assist you with resume writing is likely someone in career services. Although all universities and colleges are unique, it is standard practice for all post secondary institutions to have a department that is dedicated to supporting students transition to employment. Usually, this falls under the university's Career Service or Career Center. They will have designated staff to assist you with all you resume and cover letter writing needs.

For New Immigrants:

Many newcomers to Canada will require career and job search support to help them transition into employment. Most cities in Canada will have free job search support services for newcomers and immigrants. These businesses are largely funded by government dollars and will have settlement professionals available to help you craft a resume, develop job search techniques and understand the cultural differences you may face entering the labour market.

For Unemployed Canadians:

The provincial government in Canada offer free employment support for individuals looking for work. Depending on where you live in Canada, there will be a provincial Employment Service Centre that provides support in two main categories:

a) Self -Serve Service: Access to computer labs for resume writing, job boards, job search workshops, etc.

b) Employment Services: One-on-one career counselling/resume coaching, self employment program support, job placement support, etc.

For Business Professionals:

If you don’t fall into any of the above categories and are wanting support with resume writing and/or job search, your best bet may be to hire a job coach or resume writer. By conducting a simple Google search you can likely locate a professional in your community who can offer support in these areas. Given that resume writing can be done online, there are 1000’s of online resume writing companies who can craft a beautiful, professional resume for you.

Note: Be cautious of online resume writing companies which offer services for a very low cost. You usually get what you pay for in the resume writing world and a cheap resume will likely be poorly crafted.
